Inside The Book

NEUROSCIENCE TELLS US that everything happens in the mind first before it materialises in physical reality, so I have made it my life’s work to help myself and others create, articulate, and animate their goals. Young people need to enjoy the boundless possibilities of youth, dreaming big, being excited and motivated about what is out there, regardless of the difficulties that we find ourselves in. Vision and support will create excitement in their lives. It will energize them, guide their friendships, attract the resources they need, and it is the best antidote for overcoming the multitude of temptations that face many youths. They are our future; they will be making the decisions that influence the world. It all starts with belief and vision.

What is vision? It is the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom. So, vision involves thinking, imagination and planning. Vision is a mental image of what the future will or could be like. Proverbs 29:18 says: “where there is no vision the people perish. People cast off restraint where there is no vision” ... Vision draws boundaries in our lives. If you don’t have a vision your life will flow in all directions; your energies, resources, and time will flow in all directions and you will be destroyed. Someone once said that a person without a vision is a person without a future. This reminded me of an illustration of this notion.

A story is told of three masons who were laying bricks. The first one was asked: “What are you doing?” And he says, “I am laying bricks.” The second bricklayer is asked the same and answers: “I am building a wall.” The third man, to the same question responds: “I am building a beautiful cathedral for the glory of God. People will gather here to worship, weddings will be done in this cathedral, people will socialize here. It will be a beautiful place that will change this society.”

In essence, out of those three men, the first one who didn't have a vision was just laying bricks. For him giving up was very easy because he couldn't see ahead; he was just engaging in an activity. The second one was building a wall, but really, he couldn't see where the wall would end or what it could become. This also made it very easy for him to give up. But the third one who had a vision of the cathedral that he was erecting and what it would bring to his society, had a vision and would not give up until that cathedral was completed.

In The Power of Vision for the Next Generation, You Will Learn

Life is a gift. We enter this life with an allowance; genes, gifts, talents, and an innate drive to connect, keep growing and learning and find meaning. Some get it right, and some spend the greater part of a lifetime wandering aimlessly from one activity to the next. I have come to understand the greatest differentiator between these experiences is vision.

My Future Me was driving cars, dressing well, and living it up in suburbs while I still had chores, homework, and an address in the village. I really loved to daydream. And the best part is that most of the things I used to dream about have come true in my life.

If my dad who had the right to beat me, told me that he wouldn't beat me again because we could sit and reason, why would I ever allow another person to beat or abuse me? I learned the vision you hold defines your values and what is acceptable or unacceptable. I believe this is a great lesson for children to learn, to have a vision and values for themselves.

A demanding career takes up all your time, energy, motivation, and at the end of the day, you are left with no time or energy to pursue anything else. I intentionally had to reorganise my time and resources to follow my passion of empowering and positively impacting people.

The daydreaming is the fun part; at some point the brush must touch the canvas. Quitting and taking the easy road were not options. Believing in God is the purpose and foundation of my life.

The prognosis is not great, but through personal experience and an unfailing belief in God I live my passion for inspiring and empowering teenagers to articulate a vision for their future. This is not just about inspiring youth to fulfil their dreams. If the national statistics are anything to go by vision is a matter of life and death.

  • Pray and ask God to guide you as you prepare the vision for your future.
  • Imagine your future life. What do I want in Life?
  • Dream Big and come up with THREE BIG Dreams or mental pictures of the life you want in the next 2, 3 or 5 years. Do not have too many. Start with your top three dreams.

  • Vision will guide your life.
  • Vision will attract the necessary resources required for its fulfilment.
  • Vision will determine your close associates.

A professional with a vision lives a directed life because vision creates direction and boundaries in life. Planning the next step in your career is non-negotiable. The power of vision for the next generation has its secrets laid out in the power of vision for the next generation.

LEADERS

Leaving a valuable Legacy to the next generation is every leader’s goal because when it comes down to it, our legacy is the people we touch in through our leadership. A lack of role models or resources, along with the reflexive perpetuation of intergenerational scripts sees our young people without purpose, vision, or anchor. The power of vision for the next generation is an incredible source of inspiration to any leader with a vision to leave a legacy behind.
